Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, lies on the Abyssinian Highlands at around 2400 m above sea level, at the foot of the extinct Entoto volcano. It is the country's largest city, home to around 3.8 million people. It is a political and cultural centre, often called the capital of Africa thanks to the presence of the African Union and many embassies. Amharic dominates here, though Oromo and Gurage are also spoken. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and pleasant summers. The best time to visit is the period from October to March.
